By joining NTU UCU you will be joining one of the largest branches of the largest tertiary education union in the world. We have a thousand member branch within our sights.
We represent staff across the Nottingham Trent University. We work to ensure that conditions of service, career prospects and research opportunities for staff are commensurate with a quality service. NTU UCU is not affiliated to any political party and the branch officers are elected each year by the members in accordance with the branch rules. You might wish to stand for office or otherwise participate in your branch.
For new members of staff at Nottingham Trent joining UCU is one of the best ways to find out what is happening at the University and getting to meet colleagues from outside of your department. Membership costs just a few pounds each month and much of this can be offset against income tax.
Members are provided with a range of services. Locally this might involve individual representation on anything to do with your employment at Nottingham Trent. Where we have collective bargaining rights we will be negotiating with the University on contracts and conditions of service.
"The University welcomes the contribution to the efficient and effective working of the University by its recognised Trades Unions..."[1] and NTU UCU plays a leading role in the development of local thinking on teaching, research and commercial activities. We take account of the aspirations of our members on issues such as academic freedom, funding and governance. NTU UCU has a well developed branch organisation that is responsive to the needs of different staff groups and subject areas. Information is distributed to members via regular newsletters and you will be invited to attend and vote at branch meetings.
The above however is only the beginning – by being a member of NTU UCU you will be a member of a union with almost 120,000 staff working in further and higher education. This provides you with access to a vast array of services. Further details at:
